Born in Saint Michael and raised in Bridgetown, Barbados, Rihanna auditioned for American record producer Evan Rogers who invited her to the United States to record demo tapes. Rihanna signed with Def Jam in 2005 and soon became a household name when she released her debut two studio album, Music of the Sun (2005) and A Girl Like Me (2006). Both were influenced Caribbean music and reached the top ten of the US Billboard 200 charts. Good Girl Gone Bad (2007) was her third album. This album featured elements from dance-pop and made her a symbol of sex in the world of music.
